What's a Webinar?
A webinar is an on-line seminar. To participate in a webinar, you log on to a particular web site from your own computer. You will then be able to hear our instructor and see his/her computer screen.
Our webinars are like instructor-led classes where an instructor projects from a LCD panel. Instead of projecting from a LCD panel, the instructor projects from her computer screen to yours. You'll see the instructor's screen and hear her instructions without leaving your desk.
Our webinars are hands-on. The instructor will teach a particular feature of a programme and then pause to allow you to complete exercises we e-mail you before the webinar begins. You can contact the instructor for help at any time -- verbally using your computer's microphone or manually by typing a message which will display on his/her screen.
What You Need to Participate in a Webinar
To get the most out of our webinars, you need:
- high speed internet access - a computer screen with 1024 x 768 dpi resolution - speakers on your computer

Excel's IF function enters text or a value in a particular cell depending on the contents of another cell. A very basic example is shown below. For each row, Excel automatically adds a comment in the Comment cell depending on the mark in the Mark cell -- it adds the word Pass when the mark is greater than or equal to 50 and adds the word Fail when the mark is below 50. This webinar covers basic as well as very sophisticated IF functions.

A Pivot Table is a special kind of table that summarizes information from particular fields of a list or database. Assume you have a very large list of students. The list has the following column headings:
|
Student’s Name |
School Name |
Mark |
Gender |
From this data you can create a pivot table that summarizes your information in a variety of ways. A sample pivot table appears below.

This pivot table tells you the average mark for girls at Albany School is 64, while it is 83 for both Beal and Clarkson schools. This pivot table would alert you to the fact that Albany's marks for both boys and girls are much lower than the other two schools and, if you were the Superintendent of Schools, you would realize you need to investigate the cause of the low marks.

PowerPoint ships with several different masters which control the appearance of your slides, notes and audience handouts. Assume you need to add a logo and change the background colour and font style on all of your slides. Instead of making these changes individually on each slide, you change the master and it, in turn, changes all of the slides in your show. This is a great timesaver and ensures your slide show has a consistent look. |
